Doncaster Carr Depot
Assessing the impact of higher capacity on maintenance and servicing provision.
The Doncaster Carr depot manages the servicing and maintenance of the Hitachi train fleet operating on the LNER and also has the potential to manage stock from multiple train operators. It is therefore essential that various scenarios are modelled regularly in order to ensure operational efficiency is maintained. Hitachi’s dessan Model is used to run timetable simulations to assess potential capacity issues that may arise from an increase in trains requiring servicing and maintenance at the depot.
Hitachi created a simple Solid State Interlocking (SSI) to simulate the operation of the signals and points around the area and timetables that reflected both normal and higher capacity working of the depot taking into account service and maintenance schedules to provide accurate and concise modelling. The train characteristics used in the simulations were both 5 and 9 car Class 800 and 801 sets.
As a result, Hitachi was able to define the number of trains that can safely visit the depot in a 24 hour period providing the various stakeholders with the reassurance that any proposed changes would negatively not impact their business.
