Allyship in the Workplace – action for inclusion

On the 21st June 2023, HICSE attended Hitachi's 'Allyship in Action' live panel discussion. See some of the key points on how you can action allyship and watch the full event!

On the 21 June 2023, members from the HICSE marketing team attended a live panel discussion hosted by and including the wider Hitachi group of companies. It was insightful to hear a variety of voices sharing experiences and thoughts into “Allyship in Action” within the workplace.

So, what does it mean to be an ally in the workplace? Allyship means using your personal privilege and position to support colleagues from historically marginalised communities. Allies wield their influence to amplify the voices and elevate the employee experience of their under-represented co-workers – something crucial to create and nurture a safe and inclusive workspace for all.

HICSE is dedicated to providing a comfortable work environment for all members of staff and believe in action and continued learning through events like Hitachi’s “Allyship in Action” that we can support staff at all levels.

Focusing on the keyword, 'action', the speakers highlighted key ways in which companies and individuals can encourage allyship and promote DEI.

  • Create an overall mission- This can be achieved through measuring outcomes and re-examining systems to avoid DEI falling flat

  • Provide educational opportunities- Allyship is about continuous learning and forming an open space to ask questions

  • Look out for non-inclusive behaviours within the workplace- It’s important that all voices are heard equitably
